Search partners extend the reach of Google Search ads and listings to hundreds of non-Google websites, as well as YouTube and other Google sites. Search partners are included in Google Ads search campaigns by default. Google’s example:
You have a business that offers face-painting services at parties for kids. If you add the keyword "children face painting" to your ad group, and then choose to include search partners, then your ads are eligible to appear on those partners' search results page when someone types "face painting."
Historically the list included sites like AOL, Yahoo, and even Bing, BUT NOT ANYMORE.
Google doesn’t provide information detailing the website where your ad was shown on the Search Network in the Google Ads interface, but we can get that data.
At the campaign, ad group, and many other levels in Google Ads, you can segment data by network, including search partners.
In the example above, notice that search partner CTR is 43% below Google.com, and CPC is higher, yet CPA is less than half of Google.com thanks to a significantly higher conversion rate. Lower cost per acquisition is always good, right?
The higher conversion rate either indicates very relevant traffic or (more likely) fraudulent activity as users are encouraged to not only click your ads but also complete an action on your site to encourage further search partner investment.
Depending on the industry, the campaign, the bidding objectives, and more, performance on the search partner network can vary. Even for campaigns not measuring conversions, it’s important to know where ad dollars are being spent.
Using our service, we are able to provide a detailed analysis of where your search partner ads are running and help you save money.
Below is an example report for an online university advertiser.
Other than one outlier, these websites all have CPA lower than Google.com, and most have a higher conversion rate. But seeing the actual URLs allows us to visit and inspect these magically higher converting pages.
That’s a monetized parked domain, used specifically to funnel Google search partner ad clicks to advertisers’ websites at the benefit of the domain owner and Google. THIS IS NOT THE TRAFFIC YOU WANT.
We’ve audited more than 15,000 unique search partner placements and found every single placement to be a parked domain.
